They finally get a sunny day to work on finalizing the yurt this last Thursday. After I got off work I went over to help out. When I got there they had already put the lattice up around the outside and were pretty much ready to get the rafters going up. The center ring was in the center of the yurt and we started putting the rafters in. The first 3 went up fairly easily and now the center ring can support itself. We started filling in around the 3 that were already in. I discovered that if you take one of the loose rafters and push up on the center ring its much easier for someone else to put in the rafters. I also discovered that if a hinged 2 x 4 hits you on the head from appx. 10 feet in the air it leaves a pretty nasty cut! One other thing that I discovered was that head wounds bleed... ALOT!!! By the time that the 2 x 4 made it to the ground I'm positive that my entire face was covered in blood.
The worst part about the whole thing is that my sister had just stopped filming! I ruined a perfectly good t-shirt in sacrifice of keeping my blood off of their floors! I succeeded, and I think that the yurt knew it. As I was in the house getting cleaned up another rafter fell to the ground and busted open a sharpie spilling its blood all over the rug that was under it.
